neck builder bending your head towards one shoulder against a band, done
standing
the same job as a lateral neck flexion on a bench with nothing to set up but a
band and an anchor. It fits at the end of any session
the band is slackest where the neck is stretched, a suboptimal strength curve
next to a plate, traded for the easy setup
Execution
Anchor a band at head height beside you. Loop it around the side of your head
nearest the anchor and step away until it pulls your head sideways. Stand tall
with your shoulders down.
let the band pull your head towards the anchor until you feel a stretch up the
far side of your neck
bend your head towards your other shoulder
move only at the neck, keeping your shoulders square
let the band bring your head back under control
finish all reps on one side before turning around
Start with a light band. The neck adapts slowly and the range is what you are
building first. When it stops being hard, add resistance rather than reps. Use a
heavier band, or step further from the anchor.
