Purpose
- ab builder curling your torso up from a decline bench
- the decline lets your torso drop below horizontal, so the abs are loaded in a
longer position than a floor sit-up can reach
- steeper is longer: the bench angle is the load here as much as anything you
hold
Execution
Lie back on a decline bench with your legs hooked over the pads, hands across
your chest or behind your head.
- lower your torso back until you feel the stretch across your abs
- curl your shoulders up, rounding your spine as you rise
- keep curling until your torso is upright
- lower under control back into the stretch
- pause briefly in the stretched position before the next rep
Set the bench angle once and keep it, adding an exercise note when you change
it: steeper is a longer range and not the same exercise as shallow.
