built to fix the pulling positions of the snatch, not to build a deadlift
the halt holds you where the pull tends to fall apart, so the position has to
be held rather than passed through
the wide grip starts the bar lower and leans you further over, so the back
holds a harder position than it does at clean width
Execution
Set up over the bar exactly as you would to snatch it, hands at snatch width.
Strap in. Brace your trunk and flex erectors.
break the bar off the floor and bring it to just below your knees
stop there and hold, keeping your shins and back at the same angles
resist the bar pulling your shoulders forward or your hips up
finish the pull to standing, or lower from the halt if you prefer
reset your position on the floor before the next rep
Halt just below the knee for two to three seconds and keep it there. Change
where or how long you stop and the weight changes with it, so add an exercise
note when you do.
This is assistance work, so run it after the main lift of the day.
