Purpose
- neck builder extending your head back against a load on the back of your skull
- the extensors are the half of the neck that carries visible thickness, and
they take far more load than the flexors do
- the range is short, so this lives or dies on control rather than on how much
you stack
Execution
Lie face down on a bench with your head and neck hanging off the end. Hold a
plate or a head harness against the back of your head.
- lower your head forward until you feel a stretch up the back of your neck
- extend your head back, bringing the back of your skull towards your shoulders
- move only at the neck, keeping your chest on the bench
- lower it back under control
- pause briefly in the stretched position before the next rep
Start with no weight at all and work up incrementally. The neck adapts slowly
and the range is what you are building first.
