Purpose
- overhead press launched with a leg drive, loaded and progressed as a lift of
its own
- the dip and drive get the bar past the hardest part, so your shoulders take
over above it, which is why you push-press more than you strict press
- that makes it the way to load the top of the press, where a strict press never
gets heavy enough to matter
Execution
Take the bar in a front rack on your shoulders, elbows slightly in front of it,
feet hip-width apart. Brace your trunk.
- dip at the knees, keeping your torso vertical
- drive the legs and launch the bar off your shoulders
- press it through to lockout as the drive runs out
- finish with the bar over the middle of your shoulders
- lower it back to your shoulders and reset before the next rep
Keep the dip short and vertical. A long dip turns it into a squat, and a forward
lean turns it into an incline press.
