Purpose
- hamstring and glute builder with the load beside you instead of in front of
you
- the handles sit in line with your hips, which most lifters find sits a little
easier on the back than a straight bar
- same hamstring tension for the same weight, as long as you keep your hips back
and the hamstrings under stretch
Execution
Stand inside a trap bar, feet hip-width apart, holding the handles at your
sides. Brace your trunk, flex erectors and unlock your knees.
- push your hips back and let the handles travel down your legs
- keep pushing back rather than straight down, so the hamstrings stay stretched
- descend until your hamstrings stop you
- pause briefly in the stretched position to maximize tension
- drive your hips forward to stand back up
Pick this or the barbell on preference, not on stimulus. The trap bar changes
where the weight sits, not what the hips do.
